Disruption • stoneware 26 x 18" • 2024

The goal of this piece is to ask viewers to disrupt the binary that humans have imposed between predator and prey species, the cottonmouth snake here poses no threat to the heron, yet poses a threat to humans. The heron poses no threat to humans, but can eat the snake. Likewise, in our appreciation of the heron's beauty, we often disrupt their natural behaviors, spurring them to leave chicks behind, acting in the same way a predator would. Despite our benign, or even benevolent intentions, we often create more ripples in the pond than we imagine.
